
Situated at the lower end of the Gulf of Suez, with El Gouna to the north, Safaga and Soma Bay to the south.
This once sleepy and remote fishing village now rivals with Sharm El Sheikh for the title of Egypt’s liveliest and busiest resort area, although Hurghada may be considered to be more diversified and having more of an Egyptian character, than Sharm.
As in the rest of the peninsula, water sports are the drawing card in Hurghada. If it takes place in the water you can do it here, Hurghada is considered to be an international center for aquatic sports.
The dive sights are guaranteed to astound even the most experienced diver, even beginners can enjoy the unique water gardens of the coral reefs close to shore.
Interested in plumbing the depths, but won’t put your head under water? No problem! Board the Sinbad Submarine and go down 22 meters deep. Better still go on the Aqua-scope, a contraption straight out of a 1970 sci-fi movie, the vessel is a floating affair with a submerged glass cabin where you can view the underwater world. Of course there are always the glass bottom boats and the aquarium as an alternative.
Merging the old with the new, Hurghada also has something to offer to the history buff. Jeep safaris can be arranged to visit one or two Roman sites: Mouns Porphyritis and Mouns Claudianus. A full day excursion to the monasteries of St. Paul and St. Anthony near Zafarana can also be arranged.
