Beautiful and sunny all year round
Typically, days in Egypt are warm to hot and sunny. There are only two seasons to speak of; a hot summer which runs from May to October followed by a mild winter for the remaining months. In coastal regions temperatures range between an average minimium of 15 degrees Celsius in winter with cool nights and an average maximum of 30 degrees Celsius in summer with comfortably warm nights. Desert regions are dramatically different and experience far greater daily temperature fluctuations- as high as 45 degrees during the day and as low as 5 degrees at night.
Temperatures fluctuate from north-to-south in which northern coast temperatures are always lower than southern and central regions. East-to-west temperatures remain consistent throughout the year.
Egypt receives very little rain with an average of only 80 millimeters per annum. The northern coasts receive a little more rain, where Alexandria for example, receives roughly 200 millimeters in precipitation per year and is a little more humid than central and southern regions. Moving south, Cairo recives a nominal 10 millimeters of precipitation per year and regions south of Cairo recive next to nothing, in fact, many areas go years without any precipitation whatsoever. Once the occasional rains do arrive however, they at times get there with quite a vengeance occasionally resulting in flash floods.
Egypt is generally dry which makes the summer heat bearable. The North is usually somewhat more humid than the centre and in turn the centre experiences higher humidity levels than the southern regions. City centers may experience relatively high humidity levels during the summers like Cairo for example which can reach as high as 70% humidity. Coastal areas are usually dryer, as much of the humidity is diffused by the seas.
Winds sweep across Egypt in spring and are referred to as the “Khamasseene”. They race across the lands with, at times, vigorous force and speed, occasionally forming the infamous sandstorms of spring.
